Question 1 Classical Management Theory (10 p.) Max Weber analyzed bureaucracy as the most logical and rational structure for large organisations because it is founded on rational authority instead being founded on charismatic authority.
Explain the difference between these two forms of authority and what in Weber's view makes bureaucracy more efficient for large organisations.

Question 2 Modern Management Theory (10 p.) Konusuke Matsushita, founder of National/Panasonic, stated in the 1980s that "It is still in their heads. Thinking is something for the boss, while the workers are using their screwdrivers. The western managers really believe that this is the way to organize a company."
Explain the difference approach of the "western" view as described by Matsushita and the Japanese management ideas of the 1980s.

Question 3 Leadership (15 p.) Four main styles of leadership are distinguished by Management theory: Authoritarian, Charismatic, Laissez-faire and Cooperative/Consultive leadership.
What are the main characteristics of this four leadership styles? Discuss how leaders using these leadership styles will act in a crisis situation.

Question 4 Quality Management (15 p.) Compare the following two definitions of Quality Management:
"Quality management is the integration of technical and management quality principles, practices, processes and procedures to enable each person in an organization to provide quality products and services, deliver value and contribute to the organization's success." (American Graduate University)
"Qualitätsmanagement ist die auf Qualität des Ergebnisses bezogene Abfolge von Planung dessen, was erreicht werden soll (darin enthalten auch die Bereitstellung der notwendigen Ressourcen), die Ausführung der geplanten Tätigkeiten, die Prüfung, ob die Ausführung den Vorgaben der Planung entspricht, und endlich die Korrektur etwa entstandener Abweichungen zwischen IST und SOLL. Dieser Schritt beinhaltet auch die Verbesserung des Entstehungsprozesses im Sinn von zukünftig weniger fehlerhafter, im Idealfall fehlerfreier Herstellung." (Boutellier/Masing München 1998)
