 Scientific sources and How to use a Library

 

Different scientific sources:

 

First level:

Scientific books (monographies, edited volumes)

articles in scientific magazines

proceedings of scientific conferences

PhD theses

statistical data from official sources

own primary research (questionaire, participating research, experts interviews etc.)

 

Second level:

Textbooks

"Scripts" of lectures

articles in trade magazines

statistical data from company PR

 

Third level:

Newspaper articles

dictionaries

online sources

wikis

personal experiences

hearsay, "common knowledge"

 

 

 

How to find sources?

 

- Library catalogue (Normally free of charge but not very up-to-date)

- Booksellers / Publishers (more up-to-date than libraries)

- Bibliographies (in primary sources or compilations, often online)

 

 

 

 

 

Using our library

  Please form two groups and go to the library to find out what resources are there available (books, articles in scientific magazines, books in other libraries (Fernleihe)) for your topic.

You can use the OPAC catalogue, look at the shelfs, ask the staff for help...

 

   Topics:

   - Group 1: Tourism and politics

   - Group 2: Culture Tourism

 

  

 After lunch each group should give a 10 minutes presentation about the way the searched for sources and the results.
