The Japanese Challenge
- Konosuke Matsushita
The tayloristic approach is still a legacy for
todays western management. Konusuke Matsuhita, founder
of National/Panasonic, stated in the 1980s that
"It is still in their heads. Thinking
is something for the boss, while the workers are
using their screwdrivers. The western managers really
believe that this is the way to organize a company.
We in Japan have overcome the Taylor model. Being
an entrepreneur today is so complex and difficult,
the survival of the company in an increasingly unforeseeable
environment so insecure and dangerous, that the
survival of the company can only be achieved by
mobilising every bit of intelligence of all persons
inside the company and connected to it each and
every day".

"We believe a
company consists of management, its workers,
its shareholders, and customers. A key to the
success of a company is that those four elements
should equally enjoy the maximum benefit." Konosuke Matsushita
