Definition of Lean Production and Lean Management

"Lean Production" is a concept which was first developed by the MIT in the late 1980s following an analysis of the successful production of automobiles in Toyota ("Toyotaism") and other Japanese companies.

Expanding the idea of "leanness" from production to the total company, "Lean Management" is a management concept, which includes the totality of ways of thinking, working and managing effectively and efficiently the total chain of value creation.

The goal is to a total integration and optimisation of all internal and external parts of a company.
