Performance appraisal

 

 

To counter the critics, Performance appraisal today can take on new forms:

 

- Self-appraisal

- Peer appraisal

- Upward appraisal

- Customer appraisal (surveys, surveillance, mystery shopper)

 

 

Good appraisal meetings elements:

- Analysis of performance, not personality

- Appraisee does most of the talking

- Ends positively with agreed action plans

 

 

Bad appraisal meetings elements:

- Focus on failures and omissions

- Controlled by the appraiser

- Ends with disagreement between appraiser and appraisee
