2 SWS Course (Seminar) Global Tourism Development in the first decade of the 21st century

Workload: 30 h classroom work / 90 h self-study

ECTS points: 4

Examination: Presentation (25%), Assignment paper (12-15 pages p.P.) (75%)

Assignment:
Quantitative and qualitative comparison Tourism in two countries 1999/2000 vs. 2009/2010

Five groups. Each group chooses one continent and two countries on this continent (AfricaAmericas - AsiaEurope - Oceania) to analyse and present the current situation and trends of tourism in comparison between 2000 and 2010. Countries should be dissimilar (for instance rather USA and Peru than USA and Canada).

Presentation and structured discussion of:
- Domestic, Inbound, Outbound Tourism.
Quantitative aspects: How many are travellling, where to/from? Development of infrastructure etc.
Qualitative aspects: What kind of tourists, types of tourism forms, development of tourism policies, development of tourism industry structure, development of media and marketing
Outlook: Possible developments for 2020
